Network
Connectivity
RetroWeb.net boasts world class connectivity with a strong and highly redundant internal infrastructure.
Our servers are located in two state-of-the-art datacentres in Dallas, Texas, USA (The Planet™) and New York City, New York, USA. Each datacentre is state-of-the-art and provides excellent connectivity to Europe, the Americas and Asia. With bandwidth being so abundant in the US, our servers are in a prime location for transatlantic and transpacific communications.
Our shared web hosting servers are supported by two diversely located mail relay servers and external nameservers.
The Dallas datacentre boasts over 15 gigbits of bandwidth from a diverse range of peers and major transit carriers in a BGP mix. They operate a Cisco® certified network with Juniper® border routers. If you'd like to see the technical specifications in detail, please see The Planet™'s Network & Data Centre Overview.
Hardware
To ensure that your web site runs as quickly and smoothly as possible, RetroWeb.net uses only high specification servers.
Currently, we're using very fast 2.8Ghz dual Intel®; Xeon™ servers with 2GB DDR EEC RAM as our default configuration. That's two enterprise class processors per server.
Software
A strong network and high-spec hardware means nothing if our software isn't up to scratch. We use open-source software whenever possible.
As a provider of Unix-based hosting, we use the FreeBSD operating system. And for good reason; FreeBSD has long been established as an extremely stable and secure OS with a great reputation for high performance in networking applications. Many large ISPs, including Yahoo™, have based much of their infrastructures on FreeBSD.
